Beginning Orchestral Band
This class is designed to introduce students to the joy of playing music in an ensemble setting. The only necessary requirements are the desire and drive to learn and play their instrument. No other experience is needed! Focus will be placed on basic instrument care, assembly, position and technique as well as fundamental music concepts including focused listening, reading and writing music notation.
Time: Thursdays 1:00 - 2:00
Possible Instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Percussion
Prerequisite: Students must be in 4th grade or above regardless of experience level
Materials: Instrument of Choice, Standard of Excellence Volume 1 (Red Book - available at most music stores), Folder, Pencil with eraser

Music Exploration ages 6 - 10 - No Experience
Kids will try out multiple instruments and form a rock band to perform in a concert.
Time: Mondays 1:00 - 2:15, Aug. 20 to Nov 5

A Capella Choir
This A Capella choir is a dynamic class where students can come together in a positive and open learning environment to create beautiful music as one.
Class objectives include:
--Learning solfege syllables
--Correctly count and perform rhythms
--Perform music with historically and stylistically accurate technique
--Gain a better understanding of proper vocal technique
--Learn basic music theory as well as sight reading techniques
Time: Mondays 2:00 - 3:00
Age Requirement: 9 - 15 years old

Guitar 1
This class is open to students with little or no experience playing guitar. Students will study the basics of technique and theory by learning to play melodies, chords and rhythm strums to popular songs. This group will perform on a voluntary basis.

--Guitar tuning and maintenence
--Musical alphabet
--Rhythm reading
--Standard notation and tablature
--Building song list
Time: Mondays 11am-Noon

Rock Band
One of H5's most popular offerings is Rock Band! Students will play together in a band setting and learn proper rehearsal techniques with the goal of putting on a show. We will perform rock songs in the style of- Green Day, Imagine Dragons, and the White Stripes among others. This group will perform a concert!

Pop Band
Pop Band is geared toward contemporary singer/songwriter type material where groove and melody is at the forefront. Implimentation will be similar to the Rock Band format. We will focus on songs in the style of- Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, John Mayer etc. This group will perform a concert!

Jazz Combo
Jazz is a unique form of musical expression where musicians have freedom to go beyond what is written on the score. Our Jazz combo is for players with at least 2 years of experience*
with their instruments. The focus of the class will be learning to play together, solo and improvise. As well as the importance of listening for musical cues, keeping accurate time, and learning to express feelings through the instrument.
Time: Wednesdays 1:00-2:00
Prerequisite: 7th grade and above with 2 yrs. experience on their instrument
Materials: Folder, pencil with an eraser

Beginning Keyboard
This class is designed for students with little or no experience playing keyboard/piano. The class will cover the basics such as finding the right key, beginning music reading, and finger placement, emphasizing the enjoyment of playing music.
Time: Fridays 10:00-11:00
Prerequisite: ability to participate in an hour long class
Materials: An inexpensive lesson book can be purchased from the instructor.
